Marie Nieves, of Bridgeport, died on Friday, Oct. 11, in a single-car crash on Route 8 in Trumbull, Connecticut State Police said.
Investigators say the Mercedes she was in suddenly veered onto the grassy shoulder near Exit 6 around 11 a.m. before crashing into the wall. The driver, a 60-year-old Bridgeport man, was seriously injured in the crash.
Paramedics rushed them both to St. Vincent's Medical Center, where doctors pronounced Nieves dead. Police did not provide an update on the driver's condition.
Dozens of people posted online their shock and sadness as news of Nieves' death spread. Most noted the compassion she showed her friends and family.

Others said they were stunned and heartbroken over her sudden and unexpected death.
"Words can never describe this pain," Yesenia Velez wrote.
"This is so sad! We still can’t believe Maria Nieves! Rest in peace beautiful! 🙌 She was always so nice and mad cool," Lee Goulet posted on Facebook.
Some said it was a grim reminder to be open with the people you love.
"Always express your love to friends and family. Heaven has welcomed a new angel," Ericson Rivera posted on Facebook. "May Maria Nieves rest in peace. My sincerest condolences to her family and friends."
State police are investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities ask anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information on it to contact troopers at 203-696-2500.
